Former homicide detective Narelle Fraser tells of how an evil husband cheated justice

After 18 years with Victoria Police, Narelle Fraser’s gut instinct told her there was something suspicious when she found out Melbourne mum-of-two and factory worker Maria Korp had failed to pick up her son from primary school.

It was February 9, 2005, and Maria’s husband Joe had reported her missing that evening – and right from the start suspicion fell on Joe, 47, who admitted to an affair and pointed the finger at his ex-lover Tania Herman.

They’d met online a year before, but Joe said the affair had ended months earlier. Herman, then 38, told Narelle – who was working in the missing persons unit and homicide squad – a very different story.

“I went to Tania’s home and she said that she and Joe were going to get married, he was planning a commitment ceremony, and that he was paying the rent on the home where she and her young daughter were living. So, who was lying and why?” says Narelle, 60.
