Notes On The Scent

Christine Nagel, Hermès’ Perfumer, Director of Creation, shares her inspiration for the newest scent, Twilly Eau Poivrée

What emotions do you hope to evoke with this fragrance?

I have travelled a lot over the past two years. I met many young women, I observed them and they inspired me enormously. They amazed me with their irreverence and their constant creativity. The way they do and undo things, constantly reinventing their environment. Twilly Eau Poivrée expresses their peppery side, their mischievous and sparkling character.

How did you translate your inspiration into a fragrance?

The fragrance is woven around three main materials which have been ‘twisted’ and reinterpreted. Its entire framework is based on these three new materials. For this new scent, I used pink peppercorn (instead of ginger) in extreme abundance. Another spice, however, just as powerful. Colorful and happy, this ingredient gives this new Twilly a surprising bite.

I then incorporated the delicacy of Turkish rosebuds (instead of tuberose). The essence of the rose, tender as a teenager, marries well with the pink peppercorn and brings femininity and freshness.
