Sky's Giro Hopes Take A Tumble

Motorcycle collision puts Thomas and Landa, plus Yates, out of contention.

British hopes of a podium finish in this year’s Giro were spilt all over the central Italian tarmac on Sunday after both Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates came down at a critical point in the race.

The pair, who were lying second and third overall, were left with nowhere to go after Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb) ploughed into a parked police motorbike protruding into the road as the race approached a showdown on the climb to Blockhaus. Around 20 riders came down in the spill including Thomas’s co-leader Mikel Landa and three more of their Sky team-mates.
