How to start?

The first and important thing in a flat lay photography is the story behind the image. Think about the concept or story first before starting to shoot. Align the objects according to your story and start planning your shoot. It is advisable to make a rough sketch before you start your shoot so you can have an idea of the image you are planning to capture. Take few small or medium sized objects and try to arrange them in a proper composition, so the objects can pop out in the image.

1. Always use natural light

Remember the most important thing in flat lay photography is to use natural lights, unless you are pro photographer who has proper set-up which includes all the lights and rigs. Bright images are always good rather than the dark ones and the external flash will not help you to cut that off. Find a window from where ambient lights enter the area for smooth and pleasant images. Beware of the shadows and take your time to place everything on perfect spot.
