Acing The Primary School Registration

The start of the new year brings fresh hopes and dreams for many Singaporean parents who have children starting Primary One. While this new chapter in their kids’ lives should be a proud moment for parents, many of them find the primary school registration process both stressful and troublesome. But it doesn’t have to be. PropertyGuru (www.propertyguru.com.sg) has several tips to help you ace the registration process.

Before you start registering your child for school, find out more about the different phases of registration and if you meet the criteria. There are three main phases. Children who are Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) qualify for Phase 1 and Phase 2, while Phase 3 is intended solely for foreigners. More details on the registration phases are available on the MOE website.

Plan Ahead

Knowing which phase your child falls under will enable you to shortlist schools in advance. For instance, you can apply in Phase 2A(1) if you are a former student of the primary school, or even Phase 1 if you have an older child already studying in one of your preferred schools. All children registered under Phase 1 will be given places in the school.
