Victims start legal action against council
Abuse victims who were attacked at a girls’ residential school are to sue the council who ran the home in the “largest case of its kind”.
Lawyers acting for 130 residents assaulted at Fornethy House have started legal action against Glasgow City Council.
The local authority ran the girls-only site in Kilry, Angus, from 1961 until 1993 after being gifted the mansion in 1955.
The civil action is seeking damages for abuse that left the survivors psychologically damaged, permanently injured and suicidal after staying at the school for short-term breaks.
Marion Reid, 63, the founder of The Fornethy House Residential School Survivors, said the women wouldn’t rest until they got justice.
The gran, who was abused during her six-week stay at Fornethy House in 1965 aged just eight, said: “This has been a long process. Our group is happy that our legal claim is under way.
