And the visitors took full advantage with Jake Hyde scoring soon after and King doubling the lead on the hour mark.

Maidenhead’s top scorer Danilo Orsi pulled a goal back as the home side staged a late rally, but Pete Wild’s Halifax held on to remain just a point off the play-off places ahead of Saturday’s crunch final-day clash with Chesterfield.

“It was a bitty game,” said Maidenhead boss Alan Devonshire. “Ryan’s sending off was silly and I believe it has changed the game. It was an even playing field up to that point.”
