CHESTERFIELD manager John Pember-ton praised his side’s character after striker Tom Denton netted his sixth goal of the season to edge past Yeovil in a game of few chances.

“It’s a result we needed,” Pemberton said. “Two teams who weren’t on a particularly good run, probably lacking a bit of confidence.

“Dents has again come up trumps for us and scored a great goal. It was a really tough game, it wasn’t pretty, but we expected that.

“To a man we had to grind it out. We haven’t showed that character, that’s been questioned before. You’re seeing a difference in mentality. It was a game we had to win. I’m delighted because winning the game is obviously massively important, but also with the clean sheet and psychologically not being second from bottom. I feel we got what we deserved today.”
