Your first shoot for Maxim! Excited?

Yes! I was slightly hesitant about shooting for Maxim, to be honest, as I thought— who wants to see an almost 45-year-old cancer survivor on the cover? And then I realised that’s exactly why I’m excited to do the cover. There’s a freedom from self-criticism at this age and it is, in fact, very empowering to shoot for Maxim as the woman I am today.

That was our exact thought, too. We want to break the norm when it comes to the way beauty and sexiness are perceived. And, you’re amazing. What’s keeping you busy these days?

Where do I start? In terms of my work, I’ve always been a creative dabbler—if I was a chef, I’d only make tapas. So I’ve got a film releasing next year directed by one of my favourite people, Prawaal Raman, and I had a film release this year called Veerappan that I quite enjoyed filming for. I’ve shot a documentary on my personal cancer story and I just released my perfume called Lisa Ray Jasmine of India, in partnership with a cool company called The Seven Virtues run by Barb Stegemann, in Canada and the US. I’m still tinkering with my memoir, writing poetry, travelling for Rado watches as their decade-long ambassador, giving inspirational talks around the world, collaborating with a friend on writing a script, juggling homes in three countries and, at times, I enjoy playing wife to my equally busy husband who is CEO of a financial services company in Hong Kong.

Whew, we’re exhausted! How do you tackle all this?
