The Big Farmland Bird Count is nearly here. It’s not just for farmers, and your input is invaluable so, to help you along, the GWCT has set up some brilliant training days
With the 2018 Big Farmland Bird Count (BFBC) just around the corner, there will soon be an exciting opportunity for shooters, farmers, gamekeepers and land managers to take part in a farmland bird identification training session. The ID days will be taking place from 11 January to 3 February, and will provide expert advice on birds that can be tricky to differentiate, such as the tree sparrow and chaffinch.
Founder of the BFBC, Jim Egan, who is head of development and education at the GWCT’s Allerton Project in Loddington, explains why it’s essential to sign up: “The 20-plus ID days we host across the UK will help you recognise each bird you see during the count itself. “By the end of the ID day, you should be able to recognise the top 20 bird species you can e
