Pune-based architects Madhuri and Sagar Zite designed a home for the Kad family keeping in mind the family’s traditional roots and modern outlook.

Blending Tradition and Modernity

We were keen to design a home that would meet the requirements of the family as a whole as well as of each family member’, say Pune-based architects Madhuri and Sagar Zite, Nand Arch Creations, of the 5000 sq feet bungalow they designed for the Kad family. Given an architectural shell in the form of RCC slabs, columns and newly started brickwork, and a free reign to transform the structure with their ideas and concepts, the architect couple quickly got down to planning spaces for the two-level residence.

Realizing that it was important to understand the requirements of the family, the architects observed the sentiments and preferences of the client Ramchandra Kad, his wife Yogini, their recently married elder son Rohit and his wife Rewa, and their younger son Abhilash. ‘We found that Kad lives with certain specific value systems that were shaped through his working journey of almost 25 years. While he is a hardcore businessman and wishes to preserve traditional family values, he is also ready to accept the modern views of the next generation’.

Cohesive Spaces

The Zites noted that the family was rooted in religious and cultural beliefs, even as they enjoyed a modern lifestyle; Ramchandra and Yogini are deeply attached to each other; the younger generation is in sync with trends; and the family usually spends time together during breakfast. Drawing from these observations, they decided to design a residence with interactive and private spaces, traditional and modern elements.
