A Milanese-South African design duo recently spent time in the Conrad Hicks design residency to reimagine the perception of Southern Africa’s ubiquitous corrugated metal.

Corrugated metal, in all its shapes, colours and textures, is inextricably tied to the contemporary South African landscape and for Cara / Davide – a South African-Milanese design duo – the metal’s possibilities go far beyond material. The two designers, Cara Judd (South African) and Davide Gramatica (Italian), who are based in Milan, recently spent some time as designers-in-residence at the Conrad Hicks Metal Studio working with Conrad and other local artisans and specialists to realise a prototype collection of beautiful furniture pieces called Ondulato, that challenge our perceptions of the material.
