Case Study Take The Edge Off

The concept of the bathroom as a sanctuary is an appealing one: we all need a place where we can wind down away from the hubbub of the rest of the house. For some, the mere fact of drawing the bolt on the bathroom door is enough to let them switch off; for others, the entire room has been engineered to create a deep sense of relaxation. In this design, by West One Bathrooms, every detail, from the surface finishes to the positioning of the sanitary ware, was part of a plan to create a haven of spa-like bliss.

Louise Ashdown, head of design at West One, explains what lay behind the project: “When the house was being extended, the owners decided to add an en-suite bathroom to their bedroom. We were involved right from the start, alongside the architects, which was very useful. It meant we could resolve any problems at the planning stage.” The room in question is large, measuring 4.5m by 5m, so there was plenty of space for both a bath and a walk-in shower.
