Kids can be capricious in their tastes. Just ask any parent who has spent a small fortune on everything dinosaurs – bedlinen, toys and books – for a kid who was yesterday obsessed with palaeontology, only to have them wake up the next day talking only of Fortnite. But ultimately, their room is somewhat of a sacred space. A semi-independent state in the Republic of The Parent and, as such, a canvas for their emerging sense of self.

Walls make excellent avenues for such statements, and a virtual gallery that reflects tastes and interests better than any mirror. It’s the grown-ups who start it, of course, with wallpaper friezes in the nursery and back in the day these tended to be characters straight out of storybooks or storks carrying newborns like foetal Fedex.
