“I’ve been a town-rat since I was 13 or 14. The fancy girls from my school went to Newmarket. But if you didn’t have money, you could hang out on K’ Road, where there’s less predictability, a bit of character and surprises to be found in nooks and crannies. In the past decade it’s largely bucked the broader trend as society has become more stratified – even though there’s change in the air, there’s still something egalitarian about this place.
