It's Called Evolution
The Complete Fly Fisherman
|Jan/Feb/Mar 2021
Our quarry constantly has to adapt to the everchanging conditions of their environment. It goes without saying then, that we, too, need to revise our fishing strategy to remain successful on any given day. Anton Hartman explains.

Opinions regarding fishing conditions have been ongoing for as long as men have been drawn to waters. So many factors are mentioned and sworn to be the reason why someone had either a good or a bad day on the water. Truth is that there’s objective scientific reality that causes fish to behave in a certain way, and then there are hundreds of thumbsuck opinions that are nothing more than desperate attempts to justify success or failure.
We have all heard of pressure, wind direction, visibility, water temperature, moon phase and so much more, and at any given time one or even more of these factors gets mentioned by anglers when they’ve had a tough day on the water. In reality, with ever-changing weather patterns it makes it so much more complicated to time your fishing trips to fall within ideal conditions, that is if you really know what ideal conditions are. With so many variables to consider, it is a lot easier to keep it simple and work with the few factors that you actually understand. Making a list of a few variables and numbering them in order of importance is one way I suggest you go about it.
