BY NOW, it’s common knowledge that The Batman, 2022’s cinematic iteration of the DC Comics character and longtime mainstay of the superhero universe, will star Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, the anthropomorphic cat burglar who is sometimes-lover, most-times nemesis to the titular character. There’s no doubt that it is an all-caps BIG character, heavy in its legacy of sexual undercurrents, made iconic over the decades by stars such as Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry. Traditionally, the role has mandated that the actor portraying it be a sex symbol as well as a volcano of charisma, letting the magnetism spill out of the screen so as to succesfully singe viewers’ eyebrows off.
