Widow Rupa was horrified when Lata fell in love with handsome Muslim Kabir Durrani and was then swept off her feet by poet Amit Chatterji. This week, the determined matriarch travels to her cousin Mr Sahgal’s house in Lucknow in search of a suitor for rebellious Lata.

With the help of a friend in Lucknow, Rupa sets up a meeting with shoe-factory owner Haresh Khanna, likes what she sees, and sends a telegram to Calcutta demanding Lata comes to Lucknow urgently.
