It’s never easy being a spin-off from an already successful TV series. For every Frasier (see panel, right), there are dozens of failures. Who now remembers Friends spin-off Joey or the various shows spawned by the classic US comedy M*A*S*H?

However, no one can question the quality of Better Call Saul. The Breaking Bad spin-off is a big hit in its own right, as it follows struggling court lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) in the years before he morphed into sleazy ambulance-chasing attorney Saul Goodman, who helps Walter White launder his meth money.

With the show returning for its third season on Netflix this week, we met up with Bob Odenkirk to talk about all things
