Christmas on the comedy circuit can be a bit of a Secret Santa – it could be a hoot, but it might turn out to be woefully unpleasant. As a jobbing stand-up, I’ve played my fair share of comedy clubs packed with entire plumbing firms. No offense to the 90 plumbers at 2009’s Bristol Jongleurs, but if my scarred memory is correct, only one of them wanted comedy (and he booked it), while the other 89 just wanted a drink and a dance.
