A gentle amble from picturesque Dorchester-on-Thames, over the river and up two of the most painted hills in Oxfordshire

The Pyramids Of Paul Nash

This month’s walk takes us to South Oxfordshire, and we’ll be journeying with English landscape artist Paul Nash (1889-1946). Nash first saw Wittenham Clumps as a teenager, staying with his uncle near Wallingford. He walked to these two low chalk hills that rise dramatically from the flat landscape around them. He was to return to them again and again in his painting. They appear in his work throughout the thirty-odd years of his career.
