When news broke on Aug. 10 that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had called it quits after just eight months of marriage (and 10 years together, on and off), the world was shocked — and disheartened to see Cyrus gallivanting on a boat in Italy with Kaitlynn Carter (who’d ended her marriage to Brody Jenner a week prior) just hours after the split announcement.

But while the world collectively gasps, the openly pansexual star, 26, has been feeling content in her life for the first time in a while. “Miley and Liam were a classic case of young love,” a source close to the Hannah Montana alum tells Us. “She’ll always care about him, but Miley knows what she wants out of life more than she did a decade ago,” when the two met on the set of The Last Song.
