February was a dramatic month for Lady Gaga. Just days before she won the best original song Oscar for “Shallow,” the emotional anthem from her film A Star Is Born, she confirmed that she’d quietly split from her fiancé and agent, Christian Carino. When the Feb. 24 Academy Awards aired, people thought they knew why: Gaga and her director and costar, Bradley Cooper, gave a chills-inducing performance of “Shallow” that led fans to wonder whether the two were romantically involved in real life too.

Turns out fans were focused on the wrong Oscar-nominated actor. On March 21, Us broke the news that in the wake of her split from Christian, 49, Gaga has been “spending a lot of time” with Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner, 48, and his daughter, Ava, 6. A source tells Us, “Chris didn’t treat Gaga very well toward the end of their [two-year] relationship, and she really leaned on Jeremy in the weeks after it ended.” An insider confirms that Jeremy was there for Gaga when she needed support: “They’ve become super close and hang out all the time.”
