Having Hope In Hillside

A new face moving into 7de Laan gives Bonita hope for the future and her dream of having a family again.

Life has given Bonita (Hilde-gardt Whites) a good few slaps in the face in recent weeks. First, she and her boyfriend Justin (Dann-Jaques Mouton) found out that Justin might be businessman DeWet (Dirk Stoltz)’s biological son, but DNA tests proved that the men weren’t related. This made Justin realise that he wanted to be a better father to his own offscreen son Luka and Justin and Bonita initially planned to travel to Ireland together so that he could finally meet his son and form a bond. But in the end, it was only Justin who got on the plane after saying goodbye to Bonita and Hillside.

“It broke Bonita,” says Hildegardt. “She loved Justin so much and would do anything to see him happy. She had so much hope for the future, that they might one day be a family, but life drew an ugly line for her.“

But Bonita’s life gets an unexpected boost when the 23-year-old Crushanda “Shady” Vermeulen (Beáta Bena Green, Kim Claasen from 2018-2019 in Arendsvlei, 2018-now, see more on p32) came knocking on her door. “Crushanda is the daughter of Bonita’s brother Trigger (Ruben Engel, Lloyd in 2018 on Suidooster, 2016-now, see p30) and she’s looking for him. “Bonita was surprised to see Shady but welcomed her with open arms,” Hildegardt explains of their recent meeting.
