Soaps’ first (and best) black super couple, street-smart Jesse swept book-smart Angie off her feet in 1982; they eloped and had a son, but when Williams chose to exit in 1988, cop Jesse died in the line of duty in his truelove’s arms. Twenty years later (and after a pit stop on LOVING/THE CITY in which Angie married Jacob, Jesse’s doppelgänger), AMC lured back both actors, undid Jesse’s demise and hit the restart button on the Hubbards’ love story. Very good things happened to those who waited: Angie and Jesse 2.0 kicked off with a sweepingly romantic train-track reunion (“It’s me, baby!”) and culminated in spectacular, heartfelt nuptials that were Digest’s pick for 2008’s Best Wedding.
