Shooting for Namaste England in exotic locations like London, Brussels, Dhaka and Punjab was such a fun experience. How did it compare to shooting for Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar at the IndoNepal border?

Dibakar (Bannerjee) sir really tried to make sure that Arjun and I didn’t talk to each other to stay in character, which I found bloody impossible! (laughs) I think he gave up after three days. Most of the films Arjun and I have done have been very heartland movies, so when we heard we’d shoot in England, we went ‘Haan, haan, ham taiyyar hain!’ It was great to have a fun shoot. Films like Dibakar sir’s are films where you are in the struggle of what the scene is also trying to show. If I’ve tried to show a scene as being, for example, hot or painful, that is actually how it is in the scene. We went through the experiences of the characters ourselves, which to me is fascinating. It was beautiful!

You took a break in between to work on your body, but do you think that there’s pressure from the industry and the audience for actresses to look a certain way?
