The art of noise

Anthony takes a slight diversion this month with a look at music as an art form

There are few things as embracing and comforting as being warm and snug on a cold winter’s day. As I look out on the grey weather, I feel blessed to be warm and able to enjoy the depths of winter in some comfort.

As I am writing this, many thoughts about winter art spring to mind, including how different art forms can make a bleak winter’s day a more pleasurable experience. One recent outing comes to mind as an example of the magic that can happen when one least expects it.

It was a cold – very cold – Saturday morning and we decided to go out for coffee. One of our favourite haunts is the newly renovated and upgraded The Last, in St George’s Street in Norwich. The décor is uplifting and has a truly fresh, tropical feel.

The artworks too are bright and cheery. On a bleak day, its décor is as near to perfect as one could imagine.
