Fancy living in a rent- and utility bill-free house? The environmental scientist behind Malaysia’s first eco-friendly mobile home, MATTHIAS GELBER, spills on the abode that’s small in size but big on reducing carbon footprint.
WHO IS HE: Matthias “Green Man” Gelber, 50, founder of non-profit organisation Eco Warriors Malaysia. The Malaysia-based German ecopreneur is so passionate about sustainable living that he built an eco-friendly mobile home (above) that he lovingly christened Green Man Tiny Home, and has lived in it “very briefly”. Think of it as an eco-friendly mobile caravan: the one-room Tiny Home includes features like a solar system, rainwater harvesting and a bacterial toilet. It’s still a work-in-progress but once it goes on the market, each of these babies will set you back RM70,000 (S$22,600) to RM90,000 (S$29,000). “I want to let people know that we can live in a very sustainable way. We don’t need to live in a big house or a condo. Sustainable living is feasible in the modern-world — it’s cost-effective and practical,” says the green warrior, who has been an international trainer and professional speaker on green living for over two decades. Matthias is part of the panel at the inaugural Festival of Disruptors, a conference that shines the spotlight on innovative individuals.for utilities
