This was the response from a friend I contacted about the possibility of meeting for a coffee to catch up after long months of not seeing each other during the lockdown. Knowing him well, it wasn’t a surprising response – the character in A Christmas Carol he most closely identifies with will always be Scrooge – and it underlined a facet of the whole pandemic experience that I hadn’t really considered.
