Indian Management
|November 2017
Constant growth, broadened thought processes, and an environment of security, have released the genie from the bottle, and of late, we are seeing public opinion tilting increasingly towards social entrepreneurship.
The economic dominance of a country is subject to its innovation in industrial development, which in turn relies heavily on the entrepreneurial competencies of its people.Entrepreneurs are innovative, motivated, peculiar thinkers. When an entrepreneur drives these attributes towards socially beneficial solutions, a social enterprise is born.
The western social enterprise system has long excelled itself on the lines of various ‘individual-independent’ models. On the other hand, the social sector in India has traditionally been dependent on external donors. This support comes with a set strategy and approach towards solving problems, which is usually superficial. It was soon realised that this was not enough. It was from this understanding that change makers—who realised the need for involving communities and other stakeholders in their social enterprising models—emerged. Thus, our country too developed models that were individual, independent, self-sufficient, and scalable.
