New Spraying System Boosts Profits

John Deere's new targeted spraying system allows farmers to save money on herbicides, while increasing time on the land.

John Deere has developed a new spraying system that will help farmers target weeds amongst their crops more efficiently.

In early March, John Deere announced the launch of its See & Spray Ultimate system, which can reduce non-residual herbicide use by more than two-thirds by ensuring that only weeds in maize, soya bean and cotton crops are sprayed.

According to a statement by John Deere, this targeted spray technology could help farmers improve cost efficiency, thanks to the reduction in spray volume, which would significantly lower herbicide costs, as well as result in fewer stoppages, allowing more hectares to be covered during the day.

The See & Spray Ultimate system is factory installed and available for 2023 sprayer models, including the John Deere 410R, 412R and 612R.

“We've been on a technology journey with our customers since broadcast spraying, says Franklin Peitz, marketing manager for John Deere, in the statement.

We moved to a zone focus with section control and then advanced to individual row control with ExactApply. We're excited to optimise each individual plant using See & Spray's artificial intelligence and machine learning.
