The Stockyard, situated by an industrial estate just off the M18, is not your average truckstop – it has the look, and feel, of a family country pub. Indeed, come in on a Tuesday and Wednesday night and the place is packed to the rafters, with karaoke in full swing.

“Everyone seems to have good fun,” says owner Richard Potts. “I know virtually every driver who comes in here, although I might forget names, and we get loads of regulars,” he says.

Indeed, such is the closeness of the bonds formed that he invited three of The Stockyard regulars to his wedding.
