T​his is a kind-of sequel to Samsung’s Gear Sport watch. It’s a stripped-down version of the flagship Galaxy Watch, with a focus on fitness tracking and wellness, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a gym nut for it be a worthwhile buy. It’s a stylish, entry-level smartwatch that should also appeal to everyone, and an Android smartwatch that feels as worthwhile as the Apple Watch.

The redesign is key to the success here, because despite packing some neat new features, the fact that its sleeker and more sophisticated will no doubt be the foremost decider about whether you pull the trigger, though the price helps – it’s now one of the most affordable smartwatches. The look is a complete departure from what Samsung has done before, and feels comfortable on the wrist, with its rounded edges and smooth surfaces. You could quite easily forget you’re wearing the Galaxy Watch Active, as it weighs a mere 25g.

It doesn’t feature a rotating bezel like previous Samsung smartwatches, which is a shame because we loved that touch, and it makes navigating the interface on the 1.1-inch display fiddly at times, but we haven’t had any major frustrations.
