The last time BMW wanted to build a seven-seater, it simply added a third row in the X5.

This time round, it went and designed an entirely new X model, though its existence is a little more complicated than simply being another seven seater.

This car was built for one reason and it’s the same reason the Audi Q8 exists: the sedan is on life support and traditional models are being replaced with high-riding vehicles.

The X7 is BMW’s answer to the luxury barge segment, currently consisting of the Range Rover, Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Prospective customers in this segment aren’t interested in reasonable pricing but, for the record, we think the X7 is actually not that expensive. Compared to a few of the other cars mentioned here, the X7 might even be called a bargain.
