Richard Tipper And His... Cayman R
Evo
|December 2019
A real labour of love for its owner, this 2011 Porsche Cayman R is proof that the devil is in the detail.
WHETHER YOU TWEAK AND TUNE EVERY VEHICLE you own or are more inclined to leave things as the factory intended, it’s easy to see the appeal of Richard Tipper’s2011 Porsche Cayman R. At a glance you’d spot nothing out of the ordinary, but delve beneath the surface and this R is a quintessential example of massaging a car’s characteristics to your own personal taste – an ode to the joy of perfection.
That term is appropriate here, as it’s shared with Tipper’s business, Perfection Detailing, now in its 30th year. It’s a business that has allowed him to work with high-profile clients and some of the greatest cars in the world, and led Tipper to purchasing this particular Cayman R.
‘I’d known of the car for maybe two years,’ he explains. ‘When I worked on it the first time, I just fell in love with it. I love the shape, and what it represented, the fact that it’s a lightweight, road-going track car.’
The client who owned the R then felt the need to upgrade to a Cayman GT4, and that was all the excuse Tipper needed to put his own name on the V5. ‘What really attracted me was knowing that the owner used it daily, all year round,’ he says. ‘The original owner had used it daily too, while my client also did track days at Spa, the Nürburgring… and I’ve carried that on.’
