MG Unveils Hector

China-based SAIC Motor Corporation is set to start afresh in the Indian market following the exit of its partner, General Motors India in 2017. MG Motor, which traces its origins back to the United Kingdom and now a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC, will spearhead the operations in India starting with the Hector SUV.

The Hector is already on sale in multiple markets albeit under different brand names – Baojun 530 in China, Chevrolet Captiva in Thailand and South America and Wuling Almaz in Indonesia. In May, SAIC presented the MG Hector for the Indian market giving us a closer look at the SUV with a Brit-badge and Chinese underpinnings.

It gets the in-vogue split headlamp setup with LED DRLs placed high up and the bumper housing the main headlamps and fog lamps. The high-set bonnet and flat nose give it an imposing look akin to North American pick-up trucks.
