Australian Street Rodding
|November 2020
What a find! Maybe one of our readers will recognise these photos as being their own. Most of the cars shown here would be familiar to Victorian rodders, particularly those who were fortunate enough to get to Riverside for the drags back then. I was too young to have a driving licence so never made it to Riverside, but still recognise most of these photos. A couple that I don’t know include the light coloured (white?) channelled ’34 Ford coupe (Rego: HTR-412) and the rear-engined flathead racer that looks similar to the one John English started out with but his had an independent rear end made from early Ford bits and there are differences in the chassis and roll bar shape. It is interesting that the ’59 Ford Fairlane is equipped with a continental kit – wonder if it came that way or had it added when still quite a new car? Can anyone else add more details, particularly to the not-so-well-known cars shown in this album collection?
LOST PHOTOS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIAN CAR PARK 1979-1980
Regarding the enclosed photos I can’t tell you much about them as I found this photo album in a shopping centre car park in Perth, Western Australia one night in 1979/1980? Some photos are taken at the Riverside Drags in the early 1960s. I went to two meetings, the first one three mates and I left Swan Hill at midnight on Sunday.

TO READER’S FORUM Firstly l would like to say thanks for putting together a great magazine – l have enjoyed it for many years. l would like to further thank you for the inclusion lately of the archival coverage of drag racing and hot rod events from years ago. It really takes me back to when my father would take us to Castlereagh Drag Strip in the early days.
