We visited Julia Forman at her shared studio space at “The Commune” situated in te Design Factory at 39 Station Drive, Durban. According to their Facebook Page, Station Drive Precinct is “... Durban’s first urban renewal & creative district. Home to a wide range of creative businesses in a dynamic setting”... and dynamic it is!
Julia, or “Guilia” as she is known in the art world, says that she is far more productive in her new space. “When I worked from home I found myself feeling isolated and there were too many domestic distractions. People sometimes think that if you are at home, you’re not working. When I moved into the new studio I felt a renewed energy in my work. The whole place is crammed with creatives working in a myriad of industries from jewellery design, bespoke wedding dresses and clothing to photography, graphic design and all types of handicrafts - you name it, there is someone doing it. If I feel ‘blocked’ or in need of inspiration, I take a walk around the building or pop d
