Ganesh Haloi’s new work explores calligraphic flourishes and draws from the deep rhythms of the natural world, finds Anirudh Chari.
Sense & Sensation: Paintings in Ink and Brush, a show by Ganesh Haloi was on view at Akar Prakar, Kolkata, from the 20th of March to the 19th of June. A selection of 29 recent, largely monochromatic works, the show charted territories both familiar and unfamiliar, with works that were elegant, nuanced and expressive.
Haloi focused on the ephemeral aspects of the natural world. It was as if the master in his twilight years had paused to stare afresh in childlike wonder, his artistic curiosity strong as ever. The familiar ghats of Varanasi were included in his works, as were the rhythmic calligraphic gestures but his joyful examination of the more tangible elements of flora and fauna proved a visual delight.
