Growing Global Appetite Boosts Animal Protein Production

One of the main trends in the animal protein industry is the increase in global animal production, driven mainly by Brazil, China and the US. This is according to Rabobank’s 2018 Animal Protein Outlook.

“Four other issues that will dominate the headlines for animal protein in 2018 are […] increasing but uneven industry consolidation, revolving retail landscapes, alternative proteins and technology,” Justin Sherrard, the bank’s global strategist for animal protein, said in a statement.

GLOBAL AND LOCAL TRENDS

Production was expected to continue growing in North America and South America, with Brazil and Argentina increasing beef production by 5% and 4% respectively.

In Europe, access to export markets would be increasingly important for processors as production rose. In China, pork supply was expected to increase, but poultry was anticipated to remain flat.
