Be Wary Of Spraying Programmes!

I am often asked for nutrition or pest control programmes for various crops. If only farming were so simple! Following a set spray or fertiliser ‘recipe’ may well work, but it can cut into your profits.

Many pests come and go in cycles and many can be controlled with specific products. It is obviously in the interest of crop chemical representatives to sell you as much pesticide as possible. This translates into ‘protecting you from damage’ by ensuring that your ‘programme’ contains products to combat every potential pest for that crop, even if it is not present that year.

You can end up wasting a great deal of money on such products. Moreover, in applying them, you’ll tie up a tractor that could be better used for other tasks.
