September is a busy month for buying and selling
September is a busy time for buying and selling sheep, with the majority of breeding stock sales taking place at this time. In addition to breed society sales of pedigree animals, normal weekly livestock markets will have breeding stock on offer during September (and October) in addition to the usual store and fat lambs. Most of these will be crossbred ewes (such as mules and halfbreds), and commercial rams, but many markets do also hold an autumn ‘smallholder’s sale’ of rare, minority and native breeds.
