If I close my eyes and think of summer, I don’t picture a pristine getaway destination. I picture the heavy, static air right before a 4pm monsoon storm. Growing up in sunny Singapore, that heat was my permanent reality — the hum of a bedroom air conditioner always struggling against 35°C weather, and cold condensation dripping down a plastic cup of teh o ais onto the floor. Moving across the Causeway to KL, I realised that the creative pulse of our youth culture is exactly the same. This time of year always triggers a dreamy state of creative survival. I think of those endless, humid afternoons spent sitting on the floor of a cramped flat, sharing a single extension cord, completely broke but hyper- focused. We’d make logos for projects that didn’t exist yet, edit mood boards, and talk about our biggest aspirations until our laptops practically overheated in our laps. In the brutal midday sun, time feels like it completely stops. You get trapped in a haze where reality blurs into fantasy, waiting out the heat like an unofficial curfew just so you can step outside at dusk when the city finally starts to breathe. Those sticky, slowed-down afternoons are where our biggest ideas are born. It’s that exact space where youth culture, ambition, and the heatwave collide, making us think up things that feel totally out of reach. That effortless blend of daydreaming and reality is exactly what we wanted to capture on this month’s cover. We had the absolute pleasure of working with PP Krit again, and honestly, the charm hasn’t worn off. This marks our third time working with him, and he still has this ethereal, almost shape shifting presence that makes a chaotic set feel incredibly calm. The whole visual came together like a natural extension of those hazy, slow-moving afternoons. Maybe you don’t need to escape to find inspiration this season. The blueprint has been inside your head all along.
