You know it's important to ward off type 2 diabetes (high blood sugar caused by insulin resistance + inadequate insulin production). Risk of the condition, which can lead to heart trouble and kidney disease, increases by up to sixfold between ages 44 and 65. Here's how you can sidestep trouble altogether
Swap out an a.m. stroll for a p.m. ramble
A study in Diabetes Care found people who engaged in moderate exercise for more than 10 minutes in the afternoon lowered their HbA1c, a measure of average glucose levels, by up to 50% more than those who exercised in the morning or evening. Prefer longer strolls? Smart move. An Australian study found that at least an hour a day of moderate exercise cuts diabetes risk by up to 74%.
