You may have more power than you thought when it comes to keeping your brain healthy. “Aging is the greatest risk factor for dementia, and genetics also play a role,” says neurologist Judith Heidebrink, M.D. These factors are out of your control, but a few simple changes are proven to protect your brain.

Reduce your risk of dementia

Have some fun

Doing puzzles and playing brain, card and board games helps curb dementia risk. “I recommend doing something every day that challenges your mind,” Dr. Heidebrink notes.
