Singer Bonnie Tyler on her recent health battle and recording new music

- JORDAN PARAMOR

You've got to move with the times'

They say you can't keep a good woman down, and Bonnie Tyler is concrete proof of that. Despite having emergency knee surgery in February and needing to use crutches for several weeks, to get around, she's currently recording and releasing new music, and has a busy year of live shows ahead of her. 'I'm used to being on stage and going from here to there all the time, and it's so strange when you're kind of forced to stay still for a while,' she tells Woman's Weekly.

A lot of downtime is not something the usually active Bonnie is a fan of. 'I've got lots of energy and can't stand not being able to potter around and get on with things. I wanted to do things like sort my clothes out and get ready for summer, but I was laid up for about 10 days at one point. It drove me mad. My family came to visit me and I ended up watching a lot of TV on my phone. I also got a lot of packages arriving from Amazon, with far too much cardboard packaging!'

'I watched a documentary about [opera singer] Maria Callas and can't wait to see the film about her life, starring Angelina Jolie. My voice coach, James Windsor, went to see it at the cinema and he said it was absolutely fabulous.

'Maria Callas' voice and my mother's voice were virtually the same. I know it sounds crazy because Maria Callas was kind of a one-off, but my mother's voice was incredible.'
