The star of cosy mystery series shares what keeps him coming back to the iconic role

MARK WILLIAMS 'I'M NEVER BORED ON FATHER BROWN'

Everyone’s favourite crime solving priest, Father Brown, is back for its 12th season. To celebrate the occasion, Woman’s Day sat down with star Mark Williams to hear what keeps him coming back to the cosy mystery show he’s starred in since 2013.

Season 12 launched here in Australia last month, what can viewers expect to see?

We’ve got a wedding but we don’t know if that’s going to happen, a battle re-enactment and a flambeau episode! The usual fun and games.

What’s it like filming those big battle scenes - is it something that excites you?

We had a great day filming the battle scene. The guys who are trained as sword fighters were going for it so the director called cut and they kept going! They were too involved.

You’ve starred in over 130 episodes of Father Brown - what keeps you coming back to the role?

Father Brown never bores me, which is the principle reason why actors walk away from a series. Plus we have varied locations and lots of visiting actors, which is brilliant for me because we’ve got a new set of people every episode.

imageA similar crime drama, Vera, recently aired its final episode - do you think you’ll stick with Father Brown until its finale too?

Yeah, if they asked me to do it I will still be here!
