Rustle up these family favourites with a pack of mince and a few cupboard staples

SPEEDY DINNERS

Marmite gives the patties a deeply savoury flavour that even the skeptics will get on board with.

YOU WILL NEED

Vegetable oil, for frying

150g shallots, finely chopped

1tsp very finely chopped rosemary

500g beef mince

2tsp Marmite

80g Cheddar, cut into 4 equal pieces

Brioche buns, mayonnaise and lettuce, to serve

Cooked oven fries, to serve (optional)

HOW TO DO IT

  • Heat a drizzle of oil in a large, non-stick frying pan. Add the chopped shallots and fry for 3-5 mins until soft. Stir in the rosemary, then remove the pan from the heat.

  • Put the mince in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Add the Marmite, shallots and rosemary and use clean hands to mix everything together.

  • Divide the mix into 4 balls. Press them down firmly until they are about 12cm wide. Roll each piece of cheese into a ball, then flatten a little. Put a ball of cheese in the centre of each patty, then enclose the cheese with the meat, rolling it back into a ball. Flatten each one into a burger shape.

  • Heat a little oil to a large, non-stick pan until spitting hot. Fry the burgers over a medium heat for 5-6 mins on one side. After a couple of mins, the cheese will begin to soften – use a spatula to press down on the burgers and make them wider.
