Don't waste time fretting about that health niggle, our experts can put your mind at ease

10 questions YOU'RE TOO SCARED TO ASK

Got an embarrassing issue you'd love to get sorted? Often, it's the concerns we cringe over that are the trickiest to talk about even with the people who can help. In fact, 30% of women in the UK say that they'd feel uncomfortable discussing their vaginal health with a male healthcare professional* and half of women won't bother their doctor about menopausal symptoms**.

Don't want your health to suffer as a result of keeping quiet? Get the low-down on what's normal and when you should see a doctor...

1 My bottom is bleeding

Although rectal bleeding is a significant symptom, in most cases it's not serious, says GP Dr Robert Berry. 'Important features are what colour the blood is (fresh red being a sign of lower rectal bleeding, dark blood being further up the colon) as well as when it appears - for example, on wiping or in the toilet,' he explains. 'Worrying symptoms are weight loss and a change in bowel habits, but often it's a simple haemorrhoid.' Inflammatory bowel conditions, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, might also be considered - always see your GP.

2 I've got cankles

Always wearing trousers because of bloated lower legs? Water retention, medication and being overweight can cause swollen ankles, says podiatrist Natalie Gooding. But lifestyle changes make a difference. 'Drink water (at least eight glasses a day), sit with feet elevated and keep mobile. Walking a little each day keeps joints moving and blood flowing.' Get checked to rule out kidney and liver disease or heart and vascular problems.

A TASTE OF THE PAST

There's something strange about us Brits. Why are we so nostalgic for the cuisine of yesteryear? I don't believe food was better in my childhood - quite the opposite.
