Our latest finds? A sexy hockey show, picturesque breakaway spots, breathing room in the middle of the city and a vintage treasure trove
1 Tickled pink
You may have seen pics of Glencairn's answer to the Nellie by now: a picture-perfect pink boutique hotel overlooking the sea called Tintswalo Summer House. That pink, by the way, is custom-made. Designer Camlyn Johnston painted five swatches on the exterior wall but none of them felt quite right, so she combined all five. (The shade is now named after her!) Cam took us on a tour of the revamped hotel, pointing out every vintage light fixture, thrifted find and colour-coded tile. It really is something special, blending contemporary design with maximalist spirit and antique charm.
Each room has its own name, colour scheme and theme, complete with Smeg mini fridge, hand-painted bathroom sink, wallpaper and embellished scatters. I landed up in the Rosie room - a pink-hued haven with a vintage Italian chandelier, powder-pink coffee machine and sea view. Outside, the pool beckons with an underwater message proclaiming 'Come on in, hot stuff'.Spend the night if you can, but if you're only passing through, pop in for afternoon tea, a poolside cocktail, an ice cream from the parlour below the hotel, game-watching at the sports bar or a meal at Summer House Eatery.

2 Bulletproof I photographed windsurfer Karo van Tonder on the beach in Langebaan for this issue. In some shots, she is all dressed up, and in others, she's doing sprints on the water.

FRIDAY ON MY MIND
We know it’s Friday in this house because three things happen: The first is, a tiny aeroplane flies around the City Bowl, trailing a giant banner advertising Mavericks, the well-known local strip club ‘Glamorous Venue for Exotic Dance, Private Functions, Bachelor Parties and so much more...’ A friendly reminder to their punters that their next lap dance is due. The frequency seems to fall somewhere between teeth-flossing and mammograms. Good times, guys!
